Stepping back from Ben Ali

21. Januar 2011

In the wake of the uprising, however, France is revising its acceptance of Ben Ali, Cheap Jordans who promoted a picture of an Arab state that was open and free but that cracked down on Islamists to keep the state safe and remain a haven of commerce and tourism. “Ben Ali was able to work the notion with the West that, for Tunisia, it is either me or Osama bin Laden,” says one analyst. “It was a false choice, but people bought it.” Cheikh Rouhou worries that a post-revolution discourse in France will be dominated by depictions of “Arabs, Muslims, Islam, ethnic differences.” The weekly Canard Enchaine in Paris this week reported on apparent conversations in the French Palace, in which Sarkozy expressed concern over an Islamist domino effect after the Tunisia uprising and whether the revolt would lead to a flood of immigrants to French shores. But Cheikh Rouhou says that view of the uprising and its aftermath is flawed. “This was a citizens’ revolution, the first in which the people, not the military, got rid of the regime. It was young people using the Internet and social media. Already there is an opening to the new view taken in Washington by the Obama administration, which appears ready to correct past mistakes, and is looked upon favorably in Tunis after statements by [Secretary of State Hillary] Clinton and Obama last week.” He adds that the revolution can be an opportunity for France: “France needs more workers but doesn’t want them immigrating from Tunisia? OK, create programs of work and trade between the two. Many younger Tunisians are educated. There needs to be a way to make them useful. Find that way.”Dear brothers and sisters, Dear friends, I do not feel that we are facing a dead-end during these hours. Instead, I feel that my patriotic responsibility requires me to work on locating a big hole in the wall of this impasse. If what is being asked is to exclude Saad Hariri from the prime minister’s post, this is not a problem. Gucci Outlet Online There is a constitutional path, and we abide by any decision that results from it, irrespective of the climate of intimidation surrounding this path in the street, and out of the street. We will participate in the parliamentary consultations that will be undertaken by the president of the republic next Monday and we will offer our opinion according to our principles, and remain committed to my candidacy for prime minister, on behalf of the Future bloc of MPs and other allies. Air Yeezy It is important for us to abide by the Constitution and constitutional institutions, as a basis for everyone to act upon, and not unequal treatment, which will render the democratic process hostage to the will of the street.

Carlina White ‘born again’ after seeing parents 23 years after kidnapping as baby

21. Januar 2011

A WOMAN kidnapped as an infant from a New York hospital has been reunited with her parents 23 years later in one of the most extraordinary ends to a missing person case that America has seen. Three days before Christmas a young woman in Atlanta called the National Centre for Missing longchamp sale and Exploited Children and said: “I don’t know who I am.” She has now been given an answer: she was not Nejdra Nance of Connecticut. Her real name was Carlina White, born in Harlem and snatched as a baby from a hospital in a case that stunned the city. On Saturday, she stepped into the arrivals lounge at LaGuardia Airport in New York for an emotional reunion with her parents, Joy White and Carl Tyson, who had never stopped looking for her. “It’s like being born again,” she said. “I feel like I’m in a dream. I see my face in both my parents.” She flew in again on Wednesday night for a second reunion, bringing her young daughter, to start reconstructing her life. “When I see my mother I see myself. I see the smile, the lips, the chin,” she told The New York Post. “They were always there, but just missing. Now I feel complete.” Police in New York have reopened the case of her kidnapping, calling retired detectives who originally tried to find her, and investigating the woman that she has known all of her life as her mother. Ms White and Mr Tyson brought their 19-day-old daughter to Harlem Hospital with a high fever on a summer’s evening in 1987. Doctors gave her intravenous antibiotics and placed her in a ward with two other babies. Ms White stayed with her baby until 2am, when a nurse told her that she could go home and return in the morning. Two hours later, Carlina White was reported missing. A woman dressed in a nurse’s uniform had been hanging around the hospital and had even comforted Ms White in the corridor outside the ward over her sick child. Police later said that the woman was an impostor and their chief suspect but, after a few promising leads, the case went cold. Ms White and Mr Tyson put up 3000 posters with pictures of their missing baby. The National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children held her photograph, describing her as 53cm tall and weighing 4kg. Air Max 2011 Every few years they composed an image showing how she might have grown up. In 1992, New York City paid her parents, who had separated, $162,643 in compensation and put the rest of a $750,000 award into a trust for Carlina, should she be found by her 21st birthday. “I really believe in my heart that she’ll come back. I don’t think she’s dead,” Ms White said in a tearful interview in 2006. “But she doesn’t know me as her mother.” Her daughter had grown up as Nejdra Nance in the city of Bridgeport, just 72km away. In her teens she began to have doubts about her identity. When she became pregnant at 16 and needed her birth certificate, and again when she needed it to apply for a driving licence, the woman she knew as her mother was unable to find it. The absence of the document played on her mind whenever she wondered why she did not look like any of her relatives. She has identified the woman who brought her up as Agnotta Pettway, although the woman is said to have had several other aliases. Gucci handbags There are allegations that Ms Pettway beat her. She eventually told her “daughter” that she was not her natural mother, and that her mother had been a drug addict who had probably died. On December 22, the young woman called the Centre for Missing Persons and Exploited Children. They showed her the photograph from their Carlina White archives: it looked exactly like all of the photographs that she had of herself as a baby.

More Army Guard, reserve soldiers committing suicide

20. Januar 2011

An increase in suicides among National Guard soldiers largely in states across the Midwest — such as Missouri, Texas and Wisconsin — is responsible for a 24% increase in Army suicides last year, air max the service reported Wednesday. Missouri and Texas each reported seven suicides among their National Guard troops in 2010, Wisconsin had six, and there were five each in the National Guard units of Minnesota, Ohio, Arizona, California and North Carolina. Soldiers, both active duty and on inactive status, died by suicide at the rate of 25 per month in 2010, Army figures show. “All of us are stunned by it and we wished we knew why,” says Army Lt. Col. Jackie Guthrie of the Wisconsin National Guard. “It is especially hard when it’s suicide — when it’s someone hurting in our ranks.” USA TODAY reported in November that suicides had doubled among National Guard soldiers who were on inactive duty in a year when the Army was seeing a slight decline among active-duty soldier suicides. The Army released final year-end statistics Wednesday. There were 301 confirmed or suspected soldier suicides in 2010, including those on active duty and reservists or National Guard troops on an inactive status, the Army reported Wednesday. This compares with 242 in 2009. The Marine Corps reported a decline in suicides from 52 in 2009 to 46 confirmed or suspected cases in 2010. Among active-duty Army soldiers there were 156 potential suicides in 2010, Nike down slightly from 162 in 2009. Among National Guard soldiers on inactive status in 2010 there were 101 confirmed or suspected suicides, more than double the 48 deaths among Guard members on inactive duty in 2009. Suicides among National Guard troops in Missouri and Wisconsin not only outnumbered such deaths in previous years but were also far more than combat deaths for these units during any year since 2001, says Guthrie and Maj. Tammy Spicer, of the Missouri National Guard. As an example, the largest number of Missouri National Guard killed in combat was three in 2006, less than half the seven suicides in 2010. Members of the National Guard or Army Reserve who are on inactive duty are civilians much of the time, wearing a uniform only to drill one weekend a month and two full weeks a year. Army leaders said Wednesday that more must be done to monitor and keep tabs on troops, with section leaders checking in with them more frequently. “We recognize we must be even more aggressive,” says Gen. Peter Chiarelli, Coach Store the Army’s vice chief of staff. Chiarelli says programs designed to help soldiers deal better with stress, make it easier for them to seek substance abuse treatment and obtain marriage and family counseling are helping prevent suicides among active-duty troops.

Nintendo wants to add a new dimension to portable video games with its new 3DS handheld, set to be released March 27. The $250 system plays new three-dimensional games without the need for 3-D glasses as well as current Nintendo DS games. You can also use the system to take 3-D pictures.longchamp sale More than 30 games are expected to be released for the Nintendo 3DS between its arrival in stores and summer including Nintendo’s own releases nintendogs + cats and submarine game Steel Diver. Nintendo’s new system, initially available in black and aquamarine, is similar in size to the current Nintendo DSi and also has two screens, a lower touch-screen display and a new,Gucci bags store upper 3-D display. A slider on the side lets you adjust the 3-D effects. A new circle pad lets you move characters 360 degrees. Game developers are expected to add augmented reality features to games, courtesy of six augmented reality cards that can be placed on a surface in the real world. Look at the card through the 3DS camera and “it will superimpose images that come out of the card,” Franklin says. “Say you have got the card on your kitchen table, cheap jordans you might see a dragon popping out of your kitchen table … you can interact with that as the game desires.” Nintendo owns about 80% of the current portable video game market, with Sony’s PlayStation Portable as the main competition, says Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter. The 3DS will help secure Nintendo’s hold on that and hold off expected competition from Apple, Coach Outlet Sony and other makers of cellphones that also play games. Rumors have Apple making 3-D portables and Sony announcing a new portable game system and game-playing smartphone. “Nintendo is way ahead of any other entertainment device in 3-D and augmented reality,” Pachter says. “Right now everybody is playing catchup.” Among the 3DS’ new networking features: a StreetPass feature, which wirelessly finds other gamers who are nearby, and SpotPass updating mode, whicht automatically downloads new content at public WiFi hotspots. “We carry our iPhones around with us all the time,” says analyst Jesse Divnich of Electronic Entertainment Design and Research. “Nintendo’s goal really has to be to give a reason for consumers to carry around their 3DS wherever they go.” In Japan, where the system will be released Feb. 26, Nintendo has already issued a warning that children under the age of six should not play the 3DS because it could be harmful to the development of their vision. That will be stressed in the U.S.,Coach Handbags too, even though the American Optometric Association recently stated that Nintendo’s system and 3-D movies are not necessarily bad for children but advised using the system in moderation. Nintendo’s Franklin says that players will want to use the 3D depth slider to find their comfort zone. “With any 3-D content, whether it’s movies or TV, sometimes poeple get fatigued. Take a break and come back to it.”

Two Are Charged in iPad Security Breach

19. Januar 2011

Federal prosecutors arrested two men on Tuesday on charges of fraud and conspiracy for obtaining and distributing the e-mail addresses of 114,000 iPad 3G owners. Daniel Spitler, 26, and Andrew Auernheimer, 25, who are part of a group known as Goatse Security, gained national attention last June when they discovered a security loophole on AT&T’s longchamp bags sale Web site that allowed them to access the addresses and corresponding iPad identification numbers. Those affected by the breach included military personnel, members of the Senate and the House of Representatives, and employees of NASA and the Department of Homeland Security. Mr. Auernheimer, of Fayetteville, Ark., was taken into custody by the F.B.I. in Arkansas on Tuesday and was charged in federal court there. Mr. Spitler, a San Francisco resident, surrendered to the authorities and was taken into custody in Newark. Both men are charged with one count of conspiracy to access a computer without authorization and one count of fraud, according to the United States District Attorney’s office in Newark. Each count carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. In July, an informant gave federal agents more than 150 pages of chat logs with exchanges between Mr. Spitler and Mr. Auernheimer. Transcripts of the logs provided by the district attorney’s office outline how the two men were able to gather the information from AT&T’s site, and show the two men speculating about potential ways to use it. “This could be like, a future massive phishing operation,” Mr. Auernheimer wrote, referring to the practice of using fraudulent messages to trick people into disclosing sensitive information. “Serious like [sic] this is valuable data.” There was no indication that the men tried to sell the information. In another exchange with an unidentified person, Mr. Spitler said he did not think he was doing anything illegal. When asked why, he replied, “cause I didn’t hack anything.” At a court hearing in Newark, prosecutors tried to paint Mr. Spitler as a rogue hacker, citing the chat logs. But Mr. Spitler’s court-appointed lawyer, Susan Cassell, argued that the damaging remarks in the logs were made by Mr. Auernheimer. Mr. Spitler was released on $50,000 bail, and Judge Claire C. Cecchi restricted his travel and use of the Internet. Mr. Auernheimer has a bail hearing scheduled for Friday, the Associated Press reported. His lawyer could not be reached for comment. At a press conference in Newark, Paul J. Fishman, United States attorney for the district of New Jersey, likened the actions of Mr. Auernheimer and Mr. Spitler to “a group of people who took a car for a joy ride.” “The reason they bragged about it is because in the community that they travel in, it’s important for them that the people in their community know about the hack,” Mr. Fishman said. Mr. Auernheimer, who goes by the online alias Weev, and Mr. Spitler, longchamp handbags sale who uses the handle JacksonBrown, are both associated with a loose group of hackers and programmers called Goatse Security that tinkers with online services, according to prosecutors. Although the complaint filed by the Justice Department says that the Goatse Security group may involve as many as 10 individuals, the district attorney said there was no plan at this time to charge anyone else in the case. The Goatse Security group originally maintained, in an open letter to AT&T, that it exposed the security vulnerability on the company’s site as a way to alert it to the problem. The flaw allowed anyone to discover e-mail addresses by submitting potential iPad identification numbers to the site.. The group’s post said that “all data was gathered from a public Web server with no password, accessible by anyone on the Internet.” No actual e-mail messages were available through the security hole. But AT&T has described the group’s collection of information as “malicious” and says that it could have left its customers exposed to spam or fraud. Mark Siegel, an AT&T spokesman, said in a statement that the company took the privacy of its customers “very seriously.” “We cooperate with law enforcement whenever necessary to protect it,” he continued. Mr. Siegel directed further inquiries to Mr. Fishman’s office. Trudy Mueller, a spokeswoman at Apple, declined to comment on the matter. Richard Wang, manager of the security firm SophosLabs in the United States, said there was “criticism to be leveled at both sides” in the case. “AT&T’s site wasn’t sufficiently secure,” longchamp bags on sale Mr. Wang said. The company may have felt pressure to take strong action, he said, considering the data leak involved a high-profile business partner. But in general, Mr. Wang said, the security risk was low. “Your e-mail address is not exactly private information,” he said. “There are attacks you could launch based on this information, but not necessarily sophisticated ones.” Even so, Mr. Wang said, the Goatse Security team could have handled matters in a way that would have let them avoid prosecution. “They didn’t exactly follow responsible disclosure guidelines,” he said.

Facebook Amends Rules For Access To Phone, Address

19. Januar 2011

Demonstrating yet again that it doesn’t really understand privacy concerns, longchamp bags Facebook on Friday told developers that their Facebook apps could now ask permission for access to users’ home addresses and mobile phone numbers. The company made this information available to developers through the user object in its Graph API and reminded developers that use of Facebook data is governed by the company’s Platform Policies. In theory, there’s no privacy problem because users must grant permission to any Facebook app requesting this information and because every app is assumed to be using Facebook data appropriately. But that’s not how users saw the situation. Comments posted to Facebook’s developer blog about the decision were overwhelmingly negative. “From both the developer and user perspective, I find this a bit disturbing,” longchamp wrote Facebook user David C. Dean in a comment. “To preface this, I think it’s fair to say that the horribly convoluted privacy settings within Facebook are foreign territory to most users. They just want to use Facebook for the features it offers on the surface, and I sincerely doubt any of this will change in the near future.” Dean said that as a developer, it would be preferable to solicit address and phone number information directly, rather than relying on the fact that Facebook users are trained to click when presented with a Facebook permissions dialog box. While the majority of those commenting said that users should be protected from their ignorance about privacy concerns, a few people said that if users consent to the release of their information, that’s their problem. Faced with overwhelmingly negative feedback, Facebook backpedaled, a bit. It still sees value in providing developers with access to addresses and phone numbers, which after all are useful for shipping goods ordered online. But the company plans to revise its request process to make sure that even the most click-happy user understands what he or she is agreeing to when presented with a request for address and phone data. “Over the weekend, we got some useful feedback that we could make people more clearly aware of when they are granting access to this data,” said Facebook’s director of developer relations Douglas Purdy in a blog post. “We agree, and we are making changes to help ensure you only share this information when you intend to do so.” The company said it will disable address and phone number access until the revised notification process is put in place. Whether these changes assuage concerns remains to be seen. But Sophos senior technology consultant Graham Cluley claims that Facebook’s decision will make using the social networking service more dangerous.Coach Bags Store Facebook, he argues, is plagued by rogue applications that spam users’ walls with unwanted comments and drive users to participate in survey scams. “The ability to access users’ home addresses will also open up more opportunities for identity theft, combined with the other data that can already be extracted from Facebook users’ profiles,” he wrote in a blog post.

Pakistan Braces for Worst in Quake Aftershocks

19. Januar 2011

Panic-stricken people rushed out of their homes in Pakistan late on Tuesday night after a strong earthquake shook parts of the country, Coach Store Online underlining another dimension of the challenges faced by Washington’s key south Asia ally. Pakistan’s government officials said the earthquake emanated from a remote part of Pakistan’s southwestern Baluchistan province which borders Iran and Afghanistan. It measured approximately 7.4 on the Richter scale, the international yardstick to measure earthquakes, and was powerful enough that its tremors were felt as far as Dubai in the Middle East. Massive 7.4 Earthquake Hits SW Pakistan The earthquake’s intensity was just below that of another earthquake measuring 7.6 that struck parts of northern Pakistan in 2005 and killed more than 70,000 people. Early reports suggest that the extent of damage to property and human casualties may have been limited, as the earthquake’s epicenter was near Dalbandin, a remote and sparsely populated town in the western Baluchistan province. Government officials warned Pakistan will live with the danger of possible aftershocks in coming days.air yeezy In some instances such aftershocks have come within a week of previous earthquakes. In Karachi, Saeeda Jehan, a middle aged woman and mother of six children, quietly read religious verses from an Islamic prayer book she carried as she waited for the building with her apartment to be declared safe for her return. “I was watching TV when suddenly the TV screen began shaking. Then I realized it was a very strong earthquake,” Jehan told CBS News while standing in a crowd at Karachi’s Stargate neighborhood near the city’s main airport. Forced to leave her apartment after the earthquake, which shook the country around 1:26 a.m. local time, Jehan recounted her ordeal. “Everyone said doomsday has arrived. But I was concerned about my children. It took me 10 minutes to wake them all up before we could all step out.” Jameel Harris, an ambulance driver in Karachi, also forced to leave his flat with his five children and his wife, said there were no reports of heavy damage, though signs of panic were all around. “I have heard of cracks in some buildings but that is not across the board. The damage seems to have been done mostly to older buildings,” he said. In Pakistan’s capital Islamabad a western diplomat warned that further damage from the earthquake, notably any of its aftershocks, could seriously undermine Pakistan’s future, right at a time when the U.S. is urging the country to extend more cooperation in its campaign to fight militants. “A humanitarian crisis in Pakistan caused by the earthquake will only undermine U.S. interests,”Gucci bags sale the western diplomat told CBS News on condition of anonymity. “As it is, we must all worry about instability in a country armed with nuclear weapons and with political and economic problems,” he added. Tuesday’s earthquake was a powerful reminder of the 2005 earthquake when the death toll of more than 70,000 turned it in to one of the world’s biggest humanitarian tragedies.

Facebook tweak reveals addresses, phone numbers

18. Januar 2011

In what is potentially another privacy misstep, Facebook has made a change to a permissions dialog box users see when downloading third-party Facebook apps–a change that potentially makes users’air max addresses and phone numbers available to app developers. The tweak was made known to developers of third-party apps Friday night, by way of a post on the Facebook Developer Blog. Basically, when a person starts downloading a third-party Facebook app, a Request for Permission dialog box appears that asks for access to basic information including the downloader’s name,Nike profile picture, gender, user ID, list of friends, and more. What’s new as of Friday is an additional section that asks for access to the downloader’s current address and mobile-phone number. As mentioned in numerous media reports, the concern among Facebook users and privacy advocates is that users won’t notice the change and will click the dialog box’s Allow button unthinkingly. Coach Store Further, people are worried that unscrupulous developers could cook up bogus apps with the sole purpose of capturing the private information–apps that wouldn’t necessarily be spotted and taken down immediately. Aside from the potential for outright hacking and identity theft, it’s not unheard of for app developers to sell information on Facebook users to data brokers.

Senior official: Israeli attack on Hezbollah will bring war with Syria

18. Januar 2011

The cries of distress from the top official reminded me of Friedrich Nietzsche’s observation: “The irrationality of a thing is no argument against its existence, rather a condition of it.”Coach Outlet The voice of this man who acquired for himself a reputation in the political and diplomatic community as an unflappable analyst revealed profound worry. “You’ve no doubt noticed the many reports about the large number of missiles in the hands of Hezbollah, their long range and the preparations by the Home Front Command for a missile attack on population centers,” he said. “Take these reports, put them together with the jumpiness at the top levels of Hezbollah and the regime in Damascus in the wake of the filing of the indictments against suspects in the assassination of Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and add to this the forecast by outgoing Mossad chief Meir Dagan that the Iranian bomb isn’t at the gates.” Now that the Iranian genie has been squeezed back into the bottle, the senior official continued, noting that in any case the Obama administration has not given its blessing to an Israeli attack in Iran, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be left with the Palestinian nightmare that is teaching Israel a diplomatic lesson, and with U.S. President Barack Obama, who is continuing to pester him with this nonsense called “a permanent status agreement.” And the greatest threat of all:Cheap Nike Shoes Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman and opposition leader Kadima MK Tzipi Livni are working to push him into the battlefield where war is being waged between the religious and the secular. If something huge and terrible doesn’t happen in some other area, in the next elections the Likud will be depicted as the poodle of Shas and United Torah Judaism. The other arena Netanyahu and his aide Defense Minister Ehud Barak are eyeing, continued the senior official, is the Lebanese arena. In a few days they will have a battle-hungry chief of staff after their own hearts. Incoming Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Yoav Galant proved in Operation Cast Lead that he is a real man’s man no less than Kadima MK Shaul Mofaz was as Chief of Staff during the days of the second intifada - before he repurposed himself from the General Staff camp to the peace camp. The risk that an attack on Lebanon will elicit a missile attack on Israel does not deter real men like them, who would have shown the Iranians who the boss is here were it not for the Americans. (And indeed, a senior person in the defense establishment who knows Galant well agrees he is a warhorse chomping at the bit and defines this troika as “a fatal match.” ) The senior official concluded the conversation with a prediction that this time an attack on Hezbollah will not end without a war with Syria. The way Damascus has been behaving since the start of the investigation of the assassination and up until the dissolution of the Lebanese government on the eve of the filing of the indictments shows the close connections between the Alawite minority regime and Shi’ite organization. Both of them are clients of Iran, which will not hesitate to fight Israel to the bloody end. Coach Sale As the north burns, and with it neighborhoods in the heart of Tel Aviv, the inhabitants of Sderot will also become accustomed again to the Color Red incoming missile siren. The conversation was held just a few hours before Barak imposed a harsh diet on himself and informed the nation he had shed eight of the 13 Knesset seats the Labor Party managed to eke out in the last elections. The departure of the relatively moderate cabinet ministers Benjamin Ben Eliezer, Isaac Herzog and Avishay Braverman makes the irrationality with regard to the idea of an attack on Lebanon a more cardinal condition for its existence.

Bears’ fortunes vs. Packers — good or bad — rest with Cutler

17. Januar 2011

Over here, we have Good Jay. Over there, it’s Bad Jay. Now the question: Which one shows up for next week’s NFC Championship Game? Will it be the Jay Cutler who destroyed Seattle in a 35-24 beatdown Sunday. Or the Jay Cutler who was sacked, intercepted and ineffective in Chicago’s last appearance before this weekend,Air Yeezy a 10-3 Week 17 loss to Green Bay? Inquiring minds need to know. Because if it’s Good Jay, we have a developing story. Until this season, the guy hadn’t had a winning season anywhere since high school, a tour that included four years at Vanderbilt, three with the Denver Broncos and one with the Bears. But now … now not only does he have a playoff victory; he has the Bears within a victory of another Super Bowl Shuffle, with a defeat of Green Bay next Sunday all that’s left to punch the ticket. “It doesn’t get any bigger than this,” said Cutler. Yeah, we know, but Chicago has the Packers right where they want them — Soldier Field. Green Bay has lost three of its past four here and hasn’t scored more than 21 points in any of those games — including a 20-17 loss earlier this season. But it’s the Packers, not the Bears, that are the trendy pick to go all the way, and it’s not just because most people don’t know which Cutler shows up. It’s because they don’t care. Basically, they trust Aaron Rodgers more than they do Jay Cutler, and can you blame them? But this isn’t about Rodgers vs. Cutler. It’s about Cutler vs. Dom Capers, and if you don’t know Dom Capers by now you will soon. He’s the Packers’ defensive coordinator charged with shutting down Cutler, and it’s a task he has tackled before. Since taking over the Green Bay defense, Capers has had to defend Cutler four times, and almost always he has been successful. He’s 3-1 against the guy, holding him to a 56 percent completion rate, with four touchdowns, nine interceptions and a passer rating of 57.49. The last time these two met, Cutler not only was sacked six times and didn’t throw a touchdown pass, but the Bears couldn’t produce a touchdown, period — with a last-gasp drive short-circuited with 10 seconds left when Nick Collins intercepted Cutler at the Green Bay 11. That victory launched Green Bay into the playoffs as the sixth seed, and blame it on Cutler … or blame it on Capers. All I know is that the team that can keep Chicago from its second Super Bowl appearance in five seasons is the team the Bears could have kept out of the playoffs altogether with a simple victory in the season finale. But they didn’t, so now it’s Good Jay or Bad Jay … that is the question … and it’s up to Capers and the high-flying Packers to fill in the blanks. “They do a great job of scheming us,” said Cutler. “They’re going to show us a lot of different looks. They’re going to fool you and do a lot of different things before the snap of the ball. The way they use those linebackers … they kind of walk them around. And Charles Woodson, one of the best nickels in their D, especially blitzing off the edge and timing stuff on you. They do a good job of disrupting.” Nevertheless, Cutler seldom has been sharper than he was in his latest performance. He threw two touchdowns, he ran for two others and he produced a season-high 43 yards rushing — or as many as in his past five regular-season starts. In short, he was more Great Jay than Good Jay, and it’s about time. Gucci Outlet Online But I’ll be honest: I’m not sure what it means. Because as impressive as he and the Bears were Sunday, they hammered an opponent that was undermanned and overwhelmed. These weren’t the Seattle Seahawks of last weekend; these were the Seattle Seahawks of last season, not very good on offense and worse on defense — a distant cousin to the team that beat Chicago here in October. “The difference,” said Seattle safety Lawyer Milloy, “was that we didn’t pressure [Cutler]. He had more time today. But I’m not going to take anything away from Jay. He did everything against us he was supposed to do.” He has that right all the way around. Cutler wasn’t pressured as he was in October, when Seattle sacked him six times. Receivers went uncovered. Tight ends combined for 155 yards and two TDs. The running game produced 176 yards. And the Bears converted 56 percent of their third downs where they converted none — yep, 0-for-12 — in October. Bottom line: This was a lopsided victory, with the Bears assuming control from the beginning. On the third play from scrimmage Cutler hit tight end Greg Olsen down the middle for a 58-yard score, and the rout was on. The Bears were never threatened afterward, jumping to a 28-point lead before Seattle kicked a field goal. OK, so Seattle stunk. Say this about Cutler: He made the plays that were there. And he made the plays that weren’t there in October. “I don’t know that you’re going to get any better performance out of a quarterback,” Olsen said. “I don’t know what he threw for, but who cares? Two runs for touchdowns. Two thrown for touchdowns. No turnovers; taking care of the football; making those decisions and moving us up and down the field. I don’t know what more he could’ve done from that position in any game, let alone a huge playoff game. You can’t give him enough credit for what he did.” And I do. But I’ve seen the guy flash before, only to lapse into the Jay Cutler we watched two weeks ago in Lambeau Field: a quarterback with a strong arm who can make nice throws, make big plays but, eventually, screws up when you absolutely, positively have to have something good happen. In that game, he had one pass intercepted in the Green Bay end zone and another on Chicago’s final drive. I know it happens. It just happens far too often to get a read on this guy. So what happens now: We’ve seen an afternoon of Good Jay. Will it be Bad Jay next? Cheap Jordans “If Green Bay comes out and plays like they played [Saturday] night against Atlanta it’s going to be a tough day for us,” said Chicago cornerback Charles Tillman. And if Jay Cutler plays like he did against the Packers the last time it’s going to be tougher. Your move, Jay.
